A map of Mars, built by YOU!
Why build something small and easy, when you can build an entire planet instead? In this workspace you will find some LEGO baseplates and the instructions that go with them, which will eventually evolve into the surface of Mars, one small plate at a time. Anyone can join, and we need all the help we can get!
What you are looking at
96 squares across, 48 down
Each square on the board is one 2x2 LEGO plate, and the height of the stack under it is the elevation at that point on Mars. One plate is 2 km. The bottom plate starts 8 km below the datum, which puts 0 km at 5 plates up.
Phase 1 builds the shape of the planet in elevation bands. The stack colors cycle as they climb, so one band always sits at the same elevation anywhere on the board. Phase 2 lays a single colored plate on top of each finished stack, turning the terrain into the geological map.

Snap a picture at the table and it turns up here straight away, for everyone to see. Takes about 5 seconds, and there is nothing to sign into. Put yourself on Mars.
